Creation is not the only part of God’s universe that is groaning. So are we!

“And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Despite the fulness of life that Jesus promised us…a life that religion can never give us…and that we have life in Jesus now even if not yet in its fullness…

“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

‭‭John‬ ‭10‬:‭10‬ NLT

Life on earth is transient, a preparation for the real thing. Until we receive our resurrection bodies, we will always be incomplete. We have God’s Spirit in us now as the guarantee that God will finish what He started…His engagement ring…but, until the wedding takes place and we are eternally joined to Jesus, we are still awaiting our resurrected bodies to complete God’s plan. 

“We were given this hope when we were saved. If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭24‬-‭25‬ ‭NLT‬

Groaning is also part of the preparation. Like a pregnant woman, who must suffer all the discomforts of her pregnancy…the tiredness…the nausea…the backache…the weight of her growing baby…and then the pain of labour and birth…her groaning is not for the inevitable that must precede the birth but for the anticipation of the child that will change her life forever. 

So, creation is waiting…groaning…for restoration! We are waiting…groaning…for resurrection!
