WHAT IS GOD DOING IN SOUTH AFRICA? – 3

There is a third element in the unfolding revelation of God’s way of dealing with the nations. Through the same Jehoshaphat who witnessed the death of Ahab, God’s dealings with Moab and Ammon, two of Judas enemies, show us the way to work with Him, not against Him, through wise leaders.

2 Chronicles 20:1, 3-6, 10-12 NIV
[1] “After this, the Moabites and Ammonites with some of the Meunites came to wage war against Jehoshaphat…
[3] Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah. [4] The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him. [5] Then Jehoshaphat stood up in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem at the temple of the Lord in the front of the new courtyard [6] and said: “Lord, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you…
[10] “But now here are men from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, whose territory you would not allow Israel to invade when they came from Egypt; so they turned away from them and did not destroy them. [11] See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance. [12] Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

Through Jeshoshaphat’s faith and leadership, God destroyed the coalition of Israel’s enemies.

2 Chronicles 20:21-24 NLT
[21] “After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever!” [22] At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. [23] The armies of Moab and Ammon turned against their allies from Mount Seir and killed every one of them. After they had destroyed the army of Seir, they began attacking each other. [24] So when the army of Judah arrived at the lookout point in the wilderness, all they saw were dead bodies lying on the ground as far as they could see. Not a single one of the enemy had escaped.”

Did God accomplish His purpose?

2 Chronicles 20:29-30 NLT
[29]” When all the surrounding kingdoms heard that the Lord himself had fought against the enemies of Israel, the fear of God came over them. [30] So Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.”

How can we, God’s people, get the victory over the coalition of people and demons ranged against us? Through believing prayer, on the strength of what God has done in the past, we shall also see the gods of this nation destroyed, the glory of God revealed by what He does for us, and the nations watching us turning to the Lord because of what He has done.

Genesis 18:14 NLT
[14] IS ANYTHING TOO HARD TO FOR THE LORD?

Now, instead of jumping ship, let’s pray, watch, and see what God can do.

To be concluded…
