DAY SIX – PSALM 139

DAY SIX

“How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!

How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them,

they would outnumber the grains of sand.

When I awake, I am still with you.”

Psalm 139:17-18

COMMENT

Did you know that God thinks about you so much that if you were to add up all those thoughts, they would be more than all the grains of sand on all the beaches and the farms, gardens, and fields in the whole world?  Why would God think so much about you?  When you really love someone, you think about that person all the time.  That means that God loves you so much that He is thinking about you constantly.  Remember that He doesn’t sleep which means that He is thinking about you day and night.  What is He thinking?  He is thinking how He can bless you.  “The Lord longs to be gracious to you.  He rises to show you compassion.”  Isaiah 30:18.

PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING

Knowing that God is thinking good things about you all the time should make you really want to praise Him.  Even when you are going through hard times, He wants you to thank Him for His good thoughts about you.

DAY FIVE – PSALM 139

DAY FIVE

“All the days ordained for me

were written in your book

before one of them came to be.”

Psalm 139:16b

COMMENT

Even though God has written every day that you will live in a special book He keeps just for you, you are not a puppet that He manipulates with a string.  Because God is eternal, He can see everything in the future as though it had already happened. He has planned your whole life for you and he wants you to follow that plan because it’s a good plan.  “I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11. Just think of that!  Every entry in God’s book is about your doing good things and being blessed by the Lord.  Do you want those good plans to come about in your life?

PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING

The best way to bring all God’s good plans to pass is by releasing your faith in Him through thanksgiving.  When you thank Him and praise Him for what He has planned for you, He knows that you trust Him to bring about the very best for you, even though you don’t always see the way ahead.  Thanksgiving is the language of faith.

DAY FOUR – PSALM 139

DAY FOUR

“Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;

if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,

if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,

your right hand will hold me fast.”

Psalm 139:7-10

COMMENT

Have you ever been alone and felt really scared?  God’s promise is that you are never alone, even though there may be no other human being with you.  David said that he could not escape God’s presence, even if he tried.  No matter where he tried to run, God was always there.  But God is not with you to catch you out when you do wrong.  In yesterday’s reading you discovered that God’s hand is on you to protect you from harm and to guide you along the right way.  Today’s Scripture is telling you the same thing.  God wants you to know that, wherever you are, you will never be left alone.  He will always be there with you.

PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING

What does it mean to you that God is always with you?  Now is the time to thank Him for His loving presence with you every moment of your day and every step of your way.

DAY THREE – PSALM 139

DAY THREE

“You hem me in – behind and before;

you have laid your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too lofty for me to attain.”

Psalm 139:5,6

COMMENT

God’s hand is always on you.  Just think about that!  His hand is a restraining and a guiding hand, like a loving parent reaching out to restrain a child when he is in danger or to help him to go in the right direction when he wanders away.  When God hems you in, it is never to spoil your fun but to prevent you from harming or destroying yourself through your own immaturity or foolishness.  I think that is good reason to say thank you to God today.  If He was not constantly watching you and holding you steady on the pathway of life, you would land yourself in all kinds of trouble.  If you are in trouble, isn’t it time you responded to God’s guiding hand on your life?

PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING

You have a wonderful opportunity today to praise God for His personal supervision of you.  He didn’t just make you and send you off to make your own way in life.  He has taken personal responsibility to watch over you and to steer your through the obstacles and pitfalls that could destroy you.

DAY TWO – PSALM 139

DAY TWO

O Lord, you have searched me

and you know me.

You know when I sit and when I rise;

You perceive my thoughts from afar.

You discern my going out and my lying down;

you are familiar with all my ways.

Before a word is on my tongue

you know it completely, O Lord.

Psalm 139:1-4

COMMENT

Not only are you the unique creation of God’s hand but also the object of His personal and intimate knowledge.  This can be quite a scary thought if you are thinking, saying, or doing what you know is displeasing to Him.  But it’s also comforting to know that God knows you so completely that you don’t need to hide anything from Him.  He knows where you are, He knows your thoughts and He knows your ways.  That means that He knows how you are going to react and what you are going to do before you do it.  Wow!  That’s amazing!  Imagine someone knowing you that well and loving you for who you are anyway.

PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING

Praise the Lord today for His intimate knowledge of you. How does that make you feel?  Don’t you feel loved and special?  Thank Him for being so close to you that everything about you is open to Him.
