PSALM 149

Praise the LORD.
Sing to the LORD a new song,
his praise in the assembly of his faithful people.
2 Let Israel rejoice in their Maker;
let the people of Zion be glad in their King.
3 Let them praise his name with dancing
and make music to him with timbrel and harp.
4 For the LORD takes delight in his people;
he crowns the humble with victory.
5 Let his faithful people rejoice in this honor
and sing for joy on their beds.
6 May the praise of God be in their mouths
and a double-edged sword in their hands,
7 to inflict vengeance on the nations
and punishment on the peoples,
8 to bind their kings with fetters,
their nobles with shackles of iron,
9 to carry out the sentence written against them—
this is the glory of all his faithful people.
Praise the LORD.

Psalm 149

Hallelujah!  Praise Jehovah!

Sing to God a brand new song:

Glorify Him, your Creator;

Honour Him, He is your Maker,

Worship, praise Him all day long.

Sing His praises in the night time,

On your beds let joy ascend

Like the fragrance of your morning offering;

O adore Him, He is worthy,

Every heart before Him bend.

Praise is like a potent weapon,

Twin-edged sword, His mighty word;

Punish rebel nations with it,

Bind with chains their kings and leaders:

Awesome is your glory, Lord!

PSALM 139

You have searched me, LORD,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, LORD, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you.
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand —
when I awake, I am still with you.
19 If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, LORD,
and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 139

O Lord, I’m like an open book to you;

You read my heart, my mind on every page:

I sit, I rise, I’m naked in your sight;

My every thought lies open to your gaze.

‘Tis not to judge, your burning eyes invade

My secret heart, for deeper love discerns

Your face reflected in the murky depths;

‘Tis you who for me, seeking, searching, yearns.

Unfath’mable your love, you go ahead,

You chart my path before me, and behind

You shelter me; no mother e’er so dear

Could care, like you, and hold me in her mind.

Before my mind has formed an unborn word

You know the mystery of unspoken speech;

Surrounded by your ever-present love,

I cannot wander far beyond your reach.

Your all-pervading Spirit covers me;

No matter where I go, my God is there:

If I would rise to heav’n, your dwelling place,

I find your presence infinitely near.

To hide my shame, I flee to hell’s domain,

But lo! Your gentle hand lays hold of me:

I ride the morning winds, but ‘tis your breath,

Your hand supports, traversing land and sea.

If I should think the darkness thick enough

To hide me from your penetrating sight,

How wrong I am, how comforting to know,

To you the night is just as bright as light.

You formed my substance in the secret place;

Within my mother’s womb you fashioned me:

A master craftsman, complex my design;

So thankful that you made me wondrously.

And overshadowed by your guiding hand,

No eyes but yours beheld this shapeless form;

How carefully you planned my earthly days

And wrote them in your book ere I was born.

How precious, Lord, to know I’m on your mind;

Your love, your thoughts surround me constantly;

I sleep, cocooned within your gentle arms:

I wake to find that you still think of me.

How hateful are your enemies, O God!

That they should miss the bliss of perfect trust:

Your enemies my enemies become;

I look on them with loathing and disgust.

O search me, let the passion of your eyes

Seek out the fear, anxiety subdue;

Show me the horror of my wicked ways

And let me walk in fervent love, with you.

PSALM 103

1 Praise the LORD, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the LORD, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6 The LORD works righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.
7 He made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people of Israel:
8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
9 He will not always accuse,
nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
15 The life of mortals is like grass,
they flourish like a flower of the field;
16 the wind blows over it and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
the LORD’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children —
18 with those who keep his covenant
and remember to obey his precepts.
19 The LORD has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.
20 Praise the LORD, you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding,
who obey his word.
21 Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts,
you his servants who do his will.
22 Praise the LORD, all his works
everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the LORD, my soul.

Psalm 103

Bless the Lord, my soul, O bless the Lord!

Everything within me, bless His name:

Don’t forget the good He does for you;

Every day His kindness is the same.

All my sins forgiven, O what bliss!

All my sickness gone, O praise his name!

Better still, His mercy ransoms me,

Rescues me from all my sin and shame.

Guarded by His love and mercy too,

Fills my mouth with all that’s good for me;

Like the eagle, nourished by His hand,

Every day He keeps me young and free.

In the desert showed His mighty deeds

To His people; Moses learned His ways;

Justice gives to all who suffer wrong,

Slow to anger, full of love and grace.

Full of mercy to the guilty ones,

Never bears a grudge or angry stays ;

Does not punish us as we deserve,

Keeps forgiving, loving us always.

High as heaven above, so great His love

And mercy flow to those who fear His name,

Far as east from west our sins removed

Clearing us from all our guilt and shame.

Like a father, gentle in His love,

Well He knows our frame, that we are dust:

Just like grass we flourish, briefly bloom,

Blows the wind, we’re gone like morning mist.

But His loving kindness never ends,

Everlasting mercy, come what may;

Blessing on our children and on theirs

When we fear His name and we obey.

From His throne in heaven our God rules

Over all creation, great and small;

Praise Him, mighty angels, bending low,

Waiting to obey His every call.

Bless the Lord, yes, bless Him, all you hosts

Of burning ones who serve Him night and day;

Everything with breath, extol His name;

I will bless and praise His name alway.

PSALM 100

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Shout for joy before the Lord, O earth!

Come before Him gladly singing praise;

Do His bidding, He who gave us birth,

We, His sheep

We, His people

Safely in His verdant pastures graze.

Enter through His gates with gratitude,

Go into His courts with heartfelt praise,

Bless Him, let this be your attitude,

He is good,

He is faithful,

Thank Him, bless His holy name always.

PSALM 92

1 It is good to praise the LORD
and make music to your name, O Most High,
2 proclaiming your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,
3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre
and the melody of the harp.
4 For you make me glad by your deeds, LORD;
I sing for joy at what your hands have done.
5 How great are your works, LORD,
how profound your thoughts!
6 Senseless people do not know,
fools do not understand,
7 that though the wicked spring up like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they will be destroyed forever.
8 But you, LORD, are forever exalted.
9 For surely your enemies, LORD,
surely your enemies will perish;
all evildoers will be scattered.
10 You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox;
fine oils have been poured on me.
11 My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;
my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.
12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
13 planted in the house of the LORD,
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green,
15 proclaiming, “The LORD is upright;
he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him. ”

Psalm 92

It is good to praise Jehovah

Every day, to thank the Lord,

“For your kindness, Lord, I thank you,

Ev’ry morning raise my voice;

And when evening comes, I praise you,

In your faithfulness rejoice.”

Sing His praises to the music

Of the harp and lute and lyre;

“Lord, I revel in your goodness;

You have done so much for me.

Joy springs up when I remember

How you’ve cared so patiently.”

“How amazing are your works, Lord,

Deep your thoughts, unfath’mable;

None can comprehend your wisdom —

Wicked men don’t understand

That, though now they grow and flourish’

Justice, truth, comes from your hand.

But our God will rule forever

In the heav’ns, exalted high;

While His foes, all evil-doers,

Will be scattered far and wide.

You have made me strong as oxen;

Blessings on my head abide.

I have heard you speak the end of

All my foes — they’ll be destroyed,

But the godly shall, like cedars,

Tall and strong in Lebanon,

Planted in the Lord’s own garden,

He Himself takes care of them.

Even when they’re grey and aging,

They’ll bear fruit, they’ll still be green:

Through their lives the Lord is honoured,

Shows to all His faithful care.

He’s my rock, and He’s my shelter;

I find only goodness there.
